Всемирный день борьбы с опустыниванием и засухой

Опустынивание – глобальная проблема окружающей среды

Данный праздник был учрежден 30 января 1995 года. Инициатором создания праздника «Всемирный день борьбы с опустыниванием и засухой» стала Генеральная Ассамблея ООН. Нужно отметить, что появление этого нового праздника было приурочено к годовщине принятия Конвенции по борьбе с опустыниванием. Этот документ был подписан 17 июня 1994 года в Париже. А в силу он вступил 26 декабря 1996 года.

Цели праздника «Всемирный день борьбы с опустыниванием и засухой»

В этот день правительство всех стран мира должно задуматься о том, какой ущерб наносит опустынивание, и какие меры могут быть приняты для борьбы с этим явлением. Для эффективного решения данной проблемы необходима высокая информированность о причинах и процессах опустынивания. Очень важно при этом также и международное сотрудничество.

Опустынивание – глобальная проблема окружающей среды

Впервые внимание широкой общественности проблема опустынивания привлекла во время событий 1968-73 годов. Тогда южные районы Сахары охватила катастрофическая засуха. Тысячи местных жителей погибли от жажды и голода.

Нужно сказать, что опустынивание является одной из самых важных проблем окружающей среды, из всех, которые существуют в современном мире. Оно очень опасно и существенно снижает качество жизни огромного количества людей на нашей планете. Опустынивание и засуха ежегодно приводят к потерям огромного количества сельскохозяйственной продукции. Примерная сумма этих убытков составляет около 42 миллиардов американских долларов.
